How to make your Family feel at Ease when Moving Home!

The decision to move home possibly to a new town, city or county can turn in to one of the most stressful occasions within your life. However with the proper research and attitude you can turn it around and make it into an adventure, particularly for your children who usually love adventures. You need to stay positive, and make your kids feel safe and happy throughout the experience. The last thing you need is the hassle of removal combined with unhappy children.
If you have kids, it is good to look around the neighbourhood where you intend to move. Does it have other kids around as well at your kids' age? Does it have sporting societies and complexes? Does it have nearby movie centres, amusement parks and other local attractions that will keep your child occupied and interested until he or she will fully adjust to the new environment?
Once you've moved, you need to make your children’s room have plenty of similarities with his or her previous room, so they have an anchor to rely on based on familiar grounds. Feeling at home in the new house goes a long way towards keeping your children happy and content. Have their favourite pictures, stuffed animals around, but also have new things in the room, new toys, maybe new computer games that will spark their interest right away. You want to ensure that your children feel at home as quick as possible.
Next in line is making sure that your children find friends of their own age. Go with your children to the local places and amenities that children usually visit and befriend other mums. If you have a small toddler, find a playground nearby to go to, or a city park or join a Mum's Club if there is one around. If you have older children, you can enrol them in to various sports teams, art classes, ballet or whatever they are interested in. Playing a musical instrument or learning to swim are other interesting activities that children will enjoy trying.
Also get to know your neighbours and your new co-workers. Your children will feel better adjusted if they see that you have also adjusted, so give them motivation to do so as well. When somebody invites you to various barbecues or Christmas parties, don't be shy and attend. Depending on the situation, take your child with you as well. All these events are there to help you and your family mingle with others and ease your adjusting time in the new home and community. Your children will be happy much faster and will hurt less when thinking about all they've left behind in the old place, all their old friends, the old school and their old home. Make them embrace the new surroundings and you will soon be thankful you did this extra effort for them as well as for yourself.
