Ringworm Remedies - What You Don't Know

Ringworm is a fungal infection that creates a red uncomfortable rash on the individual or animal infected. The inflammation forms as a ring-shaped red ring with regular looking skin in the middle. Neither animals nor humans are exempt from catching it. A key quality of ringworm is its capability to lay latent on inorganic objects such as garments, furniture or fixtures. The allows it to be transmitted to an unsuspecting individual who could come in contact with an infected object. Luckily, even with all its nasty attributes, it is a treatable infection. However the treatment differs depending on whether an animal or person is being treated.

Both animals and humans can be treated for ringworm, however the treatments differ somewhat in their approach.. The first thing you will need to do is damage control around your home. Ringworm is highly communicable and can be spread through contact with covers and bedcovers Wipe all surfaces with bleach and hot water. Wash all contaminated clothing as well.. From then on, make sure that your ringworm spot is covered by clothing or a band-aid. Even though ringworm is awfully itchy, do not scratch it. It can spread without difficulty to additional parts of your body through scratching. To further complicate the managing of the fungus, ringworm has a 10 day incubation period before any signs of the infection materialize., This makes it possible to spread the fungus around before you even know you have it..

If you think you might have ringworm the safest thing to do is get it diagnosed by a doctor. Rather than go to a doctor, however, many people decide to try and treat the fungus themselves. Both athletes foot and jock itch are also types of ringworm, all grouped under the "Tinea" fungus.. Most people don't need a doctor for jock itch and athletes foot. These are usually controlled with over the counter treatments. However, because the fungus? are only closely related, you might find that you need a prescription from a doctor. Creams normally get rid of ringworm in humans fairly easily however for some people who have ringworm that have spread to other parts of their body, a doctor might prescribe an oral medication.

Some people have found a few different home remedies that get rid of ringworm. Raw papaya is said to be one of the most effective home remedies for ringworm. The papaya is cut into slices and then applied directly to the ringworm rash. Various pastes from plants such as mustard seed, butea seeds and cassia leaves are also considered effective home remedies for ringworm. Finally, as a last resort, many people swear that rubbing bleach on ringworm will cure it.

While the remedy for ringworm is fairly easy, getting rid of the ringworm for good is up to you. You need to be diligent about following he doctor?s instructions and the instructions on the medication. Do not stop using the medication if you start to notice that your rash is gone even though the cure time is not up. Although the irritation looks like it has disappeared and the prickly symptoms are gone, the ringworm rash may not be totally gone. If you stop the remedy then, most likely the rash will return.
